Apples to Apples
Receives the 1999 Mensa Select Award for Games
(April 1999) American Mensa, Ltd. has announced
that Apples to Apples is
a winner in its 10th Annual Mind Games competition the
game-playing marathon to determine the nation's top
new games held this year in Seattle.
Apples to Apples,
is the hilarious card and party game where players match
the name of a person, place or thing to characteristics
of a person, place or thing.
We believe these games are the cream-of-the-crop
and like many of the past winners may become
some of the best-selling games of the year, said Steve
Weinreich, national chief judge, American Mensa. "These
games appeal to a wide-range of game-playing enthusiasts
of all ages. So you don't have to be a Mensan
to play these games, you only have to be a Mensan to
judge them."
Apples to Apples
- selected from the 38 entered by manufacturers ranging
from mom-and-pops to national companies-were judged
on originality, game play, play value, aesthetics and
clarity of instructions.
The event divided more than 80 Mensans
into playing groups that made their way through the
games, filling out score sheets ranking each of the
games.
In past years, American Mensa has selected
games that have gone on to become top-sellers and award-winners
such as Trivial Pursuit, Taboo, Tri-bond, and Scattergories.
