Last year at Gen Con my wife and I discovered Out of
the Box Publishing which seemed to be a neat little
company with some simple, fun, and fast games. The
first game that caught our eye was Blink.
Blink is, in a nutshell, Speed (for those who are
familiar with it). Two people split a 60 card deck.
Each player draws three cards and then lays a fourth
card down face up. When play begins they try to match
the cards by the shape, color, or count on the face
of the top cards. If you have a match you lay a card
down on the top card and draw another. First person
to lay down all their cards wins.
The premise is very simple, and you really don't need
to buy this game to play it, but the cards and their
shapes add a lot to the play of the game since you are
working with (more) shapes and colors that are not as
familiar as red hearts and black spades. This plus 8
more cards than a traditional Bicycle deck gives Blink
a little more "oomph" and value for the buck (MSRP is
only 9.95).
