Here's the scenario: you want to put something fun
under the tree, but you can only spend so much - or
so little. (You know, obligations.) And you want to
be sure that whatever you pick out, it won't be played
once or twice and then left in the closet. It's gotta
be eye-catching, and it's gotta be fun.
Lots of new games hit the market this year, but not
all of them (to be blunt, not many of them) will stand
the test of time. Luckily, it's still possible to find
something that's both good and good-looking in nearly
every price range. . . .
Anyone familiar with chess will get a kick out of Bosworth
(Out of the Box, $20), in which two to four players
are crowded onto a board with only 32 squares. Instead
of standard chess pieces, the game uses cards labeled
with chess-piece silhouettes, and the cards are deployed
one at a time from a hand of three. Charmingly
illustrated, Bosworth is guaranteed to appeal to chess
fiends both young and old.
