Game Bets
By Joachim Goemann
Game classics have always invited modification from
resourceful people. Especially chess, the royal game,
has throughout time experienced innumerable variations.
Frequently they were poorly thought through games, but
at least just as often someone comes up with an independent
system, with these it is worthwhile to take a closer
look. A certain respect for the original game came with
all of these additions, expansions and variations. In
the last few years, this has changed a bit. The character
of these new games has gone and goes in the direction
of persiflage, sarcasm or absolute total chaos. The best
example of this must be the little cardgame "tschach,"
from the Heidelberger game company, which totally spins
the classic chess into a jumbled mess. The American
Osterhaus as well sees chess totally casual. Two to
four players meet one another on a four by four squares
sized field, in order to win the crown of England, each
person having a full chess team. Instead of figures,
you have cards which are put on the chess field. Not
very serious, but a well thought
through and dynamic game that will always bring fun
to your next party. Bosworth from Mark Alan,
