Another 2 player game is called Fire and Ice--the title relating
to the red and blue markers that the players have. The board
consists of 7 raised triangular islands mounted on the main
board. Each island has seven holes for playing pieces. The
holes are connected by 6 straight lines and a circle. The
islands themselves are mounted so that they themselves are
also connected in the same pattern. The goal is to control
3 of the islands that are connected by one of the lines or
the circle. Of course, islands are only "controlled" when
3 of your pieces on it are also connected by a line or circle.
Movement in this game is clever - Fire moves first from the
center hole of the center triangle. He then replaces the location
he moved from with one of Ice's pieces. Ice then moves and
replaces with a Fire piece. Moves can be made to any open
hole in the same island or to the same relative position in
another island! This is of greater depth than QUADTRIA and
takes 20-30 minutes to play, but looks
as if it will be satisfying to most players. I would give
it an 8 rating.
