| Tournament Set-Up and Rules |
| 1. |
Participants should be assigned to groups
to provide balance with respect to age and gender. Try
to separate people who know each so they will not dominate
a group |
| 2. |
Group size should range from 2 to 6 and,
if there are multiple games, groups should have as close
to an equal number of players as possible. |
| 3. |
Players should draw cards to determine
the first dealer. The person who draws the card that is
closest to the beginning of the alphabet becomes the first
dealer. |
| 4. |
If the dealer determines that two people
said words at exactly the same time, he or she may opt
to shuffle the cards in question back into the deck. |
| 5. |
The My Word!
rules determine allowable words. If a word is still in
question, the dealer may choose to consult a dictionary,
if one is available. If a dictionary is not available,
the dealer must simply use his or her best judgment. |
| 6. |
The highest score wins first place, second
highest wins second place, and so on. |
| 7. |
The number of players to advance to the
final round depends on the number of players in the tournament.
The goal is to have 3 to 6 players in the final round,
with a lower number preferred. For example, if there are
8 players, the first and second place winners from each
of the two first round games advance to the final round.
If there are 15 players, there will be three first round
games and only the first place winner from each of these
games will advance to the final round. |
| 8. |
Winners earn the respect of fellow My
Word! players worldwide for their wisdom, insight
and cunning, and are expected uphold this honored position
with grace and generosity. |
